Labeling

Bookmark and Share

In Spring 2000, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that labeling of GE foods would remain voluntary, even though there is no indication that any company will voluntarily label genetically engineered foods. Meanwhile, the FDA seems poised to make it as difficult as possible for companies who have eliminated GE ingredients to add “NON-GE” labels. These responsible companies will face burdensome regulations, while the FDA lets other companies continue to use GE ingredients in secret.

The United States may soon be the only country in the world that does not require labeling of genetically engineered food.

Tell Congress to protect your right to know, and implement mandatory labeling for genetically engineered foods!

  1. When will a hard copy of the Non-GMO Shopping Guide be available for purchase?

  2. You think you have a problem with food? Now they use this corn and soybeans to make plastic. Polylacticacid (PLA) produced by Natureworks makes plastic products from these crops. Arkema, Teknor Apex, and Dupont, and Cargill have millions invested in this. With them using GE corn and soybeans this problem will only get worse. You will not be able to stop GE crops if you do not go after the huge companys that use these. These companies have PAC’s in Washington D.C. and they have the FDA in their pocket. Just attend any plastics conference that these guys attend. They even started their own “BIO-Plastics Council” stating the the ASTM D6400 standard (industralized composts) should be what every company should aim for when making bio-plastics! As long as they continue to make millions and millions with this new plastic being touted as the alternative choice to regular plastic. You can not even recycle PLA!
    Natureworks=PLA PLASTIC=Corn/Soybean=Genetically Engineered crops=BIG PROBLEM!

  3. The California State Grange supports the labeling of genetically engineered foods and is working to get a bill introduced in the state legislature to require this.
