In 2006, the Center for Food Safety (CFS) sued the Department of Agriculture (USDA) for its illegal approval of Monsanto’s genetically engineered (GE) Roundup Ready alfalfa. The federal courts sided with CFS and banned GE alfalfa until the USDA fully analyzed the impacts of the plant on the environment, farmers, and the public in a rigorous analysis known as an environmental impact statement (or EIS). USDA released its draft EIS on December 14, 2009. A 60-day comment period is now open until February 16, 2010. This is the first time the USDA has done this type of analysis for any GE crop. Therefore, the final decision will have broad implications for all GE crops.

GE food needs to be outlawed. Let the farms have there farms back. Our government does not set them up for success, and the farmers are what made America strong for my grandpa and dad’s generation. What do we have now. Companies that own Red Delicious Apples and Alphalpha Sprots…thats like saying someone owns the right to the song Silent Night. It is not right.
It is scary what we have done to our food supply. If we don’t make drastic changes, the children of the future are going to have serious issues. Do we want to be selfish and do nothing because it is too hard… too much money… blah blah blah… We need to think of all the children… not only ourselves.
I think it is unethical and immoral to let this continue. I believe that the Government needs to protect the farmer from big corporations such as Monsanto and should be stepping up to the plate. The only reason it doesn’t of course is that Monsanto is a wealthy corporation and it is intimidated. But this is not in the spirit of the American constitution where each individual has equal rights. Not only that, Monsanto is contaminating other crops with its chemicals!! Isn’t that reason enough?? This is a sad time in history and we have gotten so far from the original morals and ethics which the American Constitution is based. The bottom line now is money and profit at the expense of the planet and individual farmers. Where is the democracy in this? The ONLY party that addresses this is the GREEN PARTY and I can’t wait until they gain popularity.
GMO’s do not belong in our food supply, but to bring them into our organic food chain would be a crime against the earth and those who live on it.
I am firmly against all GE Foods from a religious, philosophical, and health perspective. These foods are not the same as conventional breeding, the technology of recombinate DNA gene splicing is not precise, and the foods have not been tested for long-term consequences for human health nor environmental concerns.
I care about the food I eat, and the environment my food comes from! Please ban GE and GMO foods to save our world and the people on it! There is no place for GE in Organics!
I am a farmer and do NOT want GE seeds contaminating my farm! The only way to protect
the integrity of my farm and others like me is to ban
GE foods!
It is not just about the germplasm alterations that GE crops represent, although that is bad, it is about the application of the chemical Round-Up and it’s knock offs. The action of this chemical, glyphosate, has now been proven to be devastating to the normal soil balance of beneficial and pathogenic microbes. Dr. Huber has summarized years of investigations by scientists from many different places in the world who have made the observations that fungal invasions and resulting toxin accumulations is at epidemic proportions. It is about poisoning the food supply. The use of the ROund-Up Ready gene merely increases that amount of this chemical which is being applied for our demise.
The government’s out of their mind—in bed with Monsanto! They’re destroying their OWN health allowing GMO’s of ANY kind! Fine with me if they don’t respect THEIR bodies! BUT, to take away the choice of others is a whole other issue!
Even if there weren’t a growing body of scientific data that reveals the health and environmental dangers of GMO production, surely we must realize that GMO amounts to a manipulation of natural forces that once unleased cannot be undone. If ever there was time to invoke the precautionary principle, this is the time. GMO is not necessary, and does not promote the common good. We must not allow it to continue.
The public comment period has thankfully been extended to March 3rd. All comments and supporting documents must be postmarked by that date. I feel hopeful knowing that so many wonderful organizations and members of the public are concerned about GMO crops. A critical mass for healthy, sustainable and organic agriculture is rising!
It is a really helpful information about organic foods. I live in a village which is a small and and isolated place.
We are 120 km far from the nearest city and as a result we produce our own food. While doing that we use extreme caution
of our food to be organic so every information about organic is very important for me, thanks to the authors here.I also
found another useful guide for organic food and also so many other things about agriculturing, i recommend this
site to everyone who wants to learn useful informations.

We need to fight strongly against these GMO folks. Farmers are not able to save seed and we are losing our heritage and our best seeds because of this atrocity. I am angered that the government has allowed patenting to go on with genes. The greed is hindering science on all levels. Please pray for change.
iIt is essential to banish all GM foods, all GM seeds.
Do you really think that this the right move for north America, that what ever descion you make about the future of food, is based on what you heard from people that just what to give you a cut on the profits
