this artical is all wrong. GE food as decreased use of pestisides. it has increased herbisides use. this artical mixed the two up constantly. i was cringing the whole time i was reading it. the author was good. the people that were quted are uneducated in the difference between the two.

We've had a few questions and comments about this. Pesticides are any chemical used to control a pest, whether that pest is a plant (weed), insect, or disease agent (e.g. fungus). In fact, herbicides are by far the most heavily used type of pesticide. As explained in the report (pages 9-11, available at: http://www.organic-center.org/science.pest.php?action=view&report_id=159), which is based on “gold standard” USDA data, over the 13 years covered by the report, 9.3 pounds of herbicides have been applied for every one pound of insecticide on the three crops assessed by Dr. Benbrook (corn, soybeans & cotton). As Dr. Benbrook explains:

“The unmistakable dominance of herbicides in measures of the total pounds of pesticides applied is why the performance of herbicide-tolerant GE crops determines, for the most part, the impact of GE technology on overall pesticide use.”
